Community Garden Gates

Description
Designed as a welcoming entrance to the Community Garden and also allowing the space to be visible to the public, motifs were selected to represent aspects of the garden. The gate was made from laser cut Corten steel which was chosen for its weathering qualities; there is a natural process at work on the steel which reveals shades of brown and orange. It is a rustic and raw material that works well with wood and has a striking contrast to the greenery of the garden.
About the artists
Cathy graduated from the South Australian School of Art in 1980 with a BA in photography and sculpture, and then completed a Master of Visual Art and Design in painting in 2007 at UniSA.
She is a multidisciplinary artist working across the fields of graphics, painting, photography and mixed media installation. Cathy is actively involved in community and urban arts projects often using recycled materials and collaborative processes.
Being a lover of a good original T shirt and after years of making one-offs for friends and family, Cathy decided to make them available to everyone. So Zefertiti was created to make wearable art and printed design. The plan is to bring style, humour and a bit of an edge onto sustainable clothing!
